Paunch & Manure

Paunch and manure processing presents a challenge for most beef processors. The variance in content often containing rocks, straw, twine and other materials can jam traditional grinders. The varying viscosity of the output can be difficult to pump.

Facilities that use conveyors and dry dumping have to invest a lot of time and assets in manual handling. In a high volume operation, time is often spent on cleaning up spills. Traditional conveyors and screw feeders require constant lubrication and frequent servicing to work well.

Vogelsang’s XRipper® Twin-Shaft Grinder provides a comprehensive solution to paunch processing.

The XRipper is the perfect answer to solids reduction of paunch for standard transfer, biogas processing. It’s counter rotating rotors have sharp tips to grab, slice and shred material like rocks, straw and twine without jamming or ragging, cutting them down to workable size. No Trash trap is required since all debris is ground up. Unlike other grinders that have a cutting stack made from individual blades and rotors that can loosen and fail, the XRipper uses a monolithic rotor ripper design with each ripper being made from a single block of specially treated steel.

This also makes the XRipper quicker and easier to service than traditional grinders that have to be sent back to the factory. The XRipper is serviced inline and inhouse and is built for easy, one-piece removal of is rotors.

Grind and pump in one unit

Vogelsang’s RedUnit presents a simple all-in-one solution to grinding and pumping. By combining the XRipper or RotaCut with a VX HiFlo pump, you can achieve both coarse and fine reduction of high-volume dry solids in one stage of grinding. The RedUnit also allows you to mix waste with liquid to create a homogenous slurry for subsequent processes like digestion and biogas production. Individual engineered units are customizable to your application.

Blood & Washwater, and DAF Pumps

The acidic and coagulating properties of blood, and the grease, oil, animal solids and debris in washwater pose a challenge to traditional pumping systems.

The Vogelsang VX HiFlo Pump can handle varying viscosities and fluids that contain solids, efficiently.

DAFT applications are difficult not only because of the entrained air, but also the thickness of the sludge. Vogelsang pumps are designed for pumping viscous liquids containing heavy solids. A slower operating pump coupled with a wide range of available elastomers is critical. These applications require low speed in order to keep the pump from excess cavitation due to air pockets building in the cavities of the pump. Additionally, you can encounter floating solids, hair and rags that can build-up over time.
